Marty McFly’s Dream Truck

By Stephen Krcmar.

The Future is now — at least for fans of the Back to the Future franchise.

Oct. 21, 2015 was the date of “the future” in the popular films starring Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd as well as two, very cool vehicles: a DeLorean and Marty McFly’s dream truck.

Toyota updated the latter, delivering the real McFly pick-up to the 21st century.

Updating the 1985 Toyota Pickup SR5 to 2016 wasn’t easy.

“The biggest challenge was the rear “TOYOTA” logo tailgate and the custom light bar fabrication,” explained Craig Taguchi, product communications manager at Toyota.

Other upgrades include custom 1985 Toyota truck exterior paint, off-road Suspension, Toyota Racing Development (TRD) wheels, BFGoodrich tires, custom front and rear tubular bumpers, custom light bar, KC HiLites Gravity LED G46, KC HiLites Daylighter Gravity LED, custom “D-4S” fuel injection badging, custom tailgate with OG “TOYOTA” logo, custom vintage headlight and taillight design, and, finally, mud flaps from a 1985 Toyota Truck.

“Most of the parts on the Tacoma build are currently offered by TRD [Toyota Racing Development] or other aftermarket manufacturers,” Taguchi told GrindTV. “The custom light bars and the rear tailgate required the most custom work. A similar looking Tacoma could be built for about $15-$20K in addition to the cost of the vehicle.”

“We’re the most excited to see how this truck build inspires truck enthusiasts to check out the new 2016 Tacoma and to customize it to their liking,” said Taguchi.
