The Drive Home

"Cars are meant to be experienced and driven, not sit dying in a museum," David Madeira, CEO, LeMay - America's Car Museum

In that spirit, three of ACM’s cars, a 1957 Chevrolet Nomad, a 1961 Chrysler 300G and a 1966 Ford Mustang, will embark on The Drive Home, a nearly 3,000 mile cross-country journey on their way to Detroit for the kick-off of the 2016 North American International Auto Show

There will be stops along the way for enthusiast “rallies” in various cities, with the final leg taking the cars down iconic Woodward Ave. in Michigan and for a huge party hosted at Cadillac Square in Detroit by Opportunity Detroit.

Ford GT Snap Kits Coming to North American International Auto Show

Detroit Auto Show
Kids can get their very first Ford GT when they stop by the Ford stand at the North American International Auto Show in January. Ford is giving away Revell-built Ford GT model snap kits and will introduce a retail line in April.

The auto show kit includes 14 pieces for easy assembly in just a few minutes, and will feature a unique auto show stamp on the bottom to signify the special edition. The retail model is more detailed; it has 28 pieces and will take 10 to 15 minutes to build. The retail kit will be widely available to purchase for $14.99.

“Our annual Revell Make ‘n Take model kit program has become a fun-filled auto show tradition,” said Mark Bentley, Ford Licensing manager. “Letting kids build their own Ford GT is a great way to introduce them to the Ford brand and create new enthusiasts.”

Ford has worked with Illinois-based Revell to build snap kits for auto shows and for retail sale since 2013. The licensing agreement started with Mustang, followed by a Raptor version.

“We’ve always enjoyed building Ford products,” said Brian Eble, Revell’s Vice President of Marketing. “Ford’s iconic designs make them a great brand to replicate. From first time model builders to master builders; Ford products continue to be one of the most sought after subject matter for scale plastic model kits.”

Hot Rod Night Before Christmas

Twas the night before Christmas and I was so bored,
There wasn’t a trace of a Chevy or a Ford.
The presents were wrapped and the lights were all lit,
So I figured I’d mess with my Dodge for a bit.
I popped the release and I lifted the hood,
When a deep voice behind me said “looks pretty good.”
Well, as you can imagine, I turned mighty quick,
And there, by the workbench, stood good ol’ Saint Nick!
We stood there a bit, not too sure what to say,
Then he said, “don’t suppose that you’d trade for my sleigh?
I said “no way, Santa” and started to grin,
“But if you’ve got the time we could go for a spin!”
His round little mouth, all tied up like a bow,
Turned into a smile and he said “Hey! Let’s go!!”
So as not to disturb all the neighbors’ retreat,
We pushed the Charger quietly into the street,
Then, taking our places to roll down the hill,
I turned on the key and I let the clutch spill.
The sound that erupted took him by surprise,
But he liked it a lot, by the look in his eyes.
With Hoosiers a’ crying and side pipes aglow,
We headed to Summit, where the hot rodders go.
And Santa’s grin widened, approaching his ears,
With every up shift, as I went through the gears.
Then he yelled “can’t recall when I’ve felt so alive!”
So I backed off the gas and said “you wanna drive?”
Ol’ Santa was stunned when I gave him the keys,
When he walked past the headlights he shook at the knees!
Then the big block exploded with side exhaust sound!
Santa let out the clutch and the tires shook the ground!
Power shift into second, again into third!
I sat there just watching, at loss for a word,
Then I heard him exclaim as we blasted from sight,
“Merry Christmas to all………..what a great night!!!”

2015 Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals

Last month was the 2015 Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals in Rosemont, Illinois. 1,000s of muscle car enthusiasts converged on the Stephens Convention Center just outside Chicago for two days. Though snow covered the ground outside, the convention was filled with incredible Ford, GM and Chrysler muscle cars.

It was my first time at the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals. It had been on my must-go show list for a few years and I finally made it happen. California Car Cover has a number of customers that unveil cars at the MCACN each year and I decided to see these great vehicles in person. The highlight of Saturday this year was the unveiling of 14 restored vehicles, many of which featured California Car Covers on them. A big thank you to our great customers for using our products to keep their vehicles clean and hidden at the show.

The show within the show featured a nice collection of vintage Schwinn bicycles. With the Schwinn company's ties to Chicago it was cool to see so many collectible bikes at the show.

Thank you to everyone at MCACN for hosting a great event. We look forward to attending the car show in the future.
